CCC Public Health Update 26 May 2021
1 June 2021
All close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases should now be advised to get a PCR test
We have been advised today by Public Health England North West that with immediate effect, all close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases should get a PCR test. This guidance applies to all settings – early years, schools, FE colleges and universities. It applies to all children, young people and adults.
This change in guidance is being made to provide an additional measure to help stop the spread of the B.1.617.2 variant of COVID-19 (which was originally detected in India).
There is currently no known community transmission of this variant within Cumbria, however the variant is now circulating in a number of Local Authority areas across the North West. As a result, any PCR-confirmed COVID-19 case identified in the North West of England will now be assumed to be the B.1.617.2 variant until/unless proven otherwise.

Scam SMS text about Covid
11 January 2021
We have been alerted to a highly believable scam which starts with a text and advises the user that they are eligible to apply for the new vaccine and to click on the link in the text message. The user is then led to a webpage, which looks very convincing and asks them to complete some details, in order for them to be able to apply for the vaccine.
The details asked for:
Name,
Address,
Date of birth,
Proof of address,
Card payment details
With the recent approval of multiple vaccines in the UK, these types of scam attempts are likely to continue, as fraudsters continue to take advantage of the roll out to so many people.

EXPANSION OF MWPC WEBSITE
13 December 2020
As many people will know, our area will see a number of changes in the near future which represent potential opportunities for and also threats to our community. These could come in the form of changes to lifestyles and the landscape along with tourism, job supply, local government and the environmental agenda.
Representatives of MWPC are currently developing our own, community-led approach to these issues as well as being fully engaged with many external bodies to represent the interests of the parish. With so many matters either already on the table or about to be launched, a number of which appear to have conflicting agendas and long-lasting effects on our community, it’s vital that our local voice is heard to the best of our ability.
MWPC are working hard on behalf of the Parish and would welcome input from residents to help us form our responses to these and other issues and once the pertaining Covid restrictions allow we hope that more community interaction will be possible but until then please use the other means available to contact the council, all of which are shown on the website.
Here you can find additional information to cover these issues and the council’s approach where relevant. Official correspondence must be made via the Clerk but you can contact any council members to find out more about the work MWPC is doing and to point you in the direction of someone or something that might help.
