Adrianne Calsy

Biography

I moved to the area with my husband in 2008, drawn to the tranquility of Lady Hall and its proximity to our work places. I am now retired, after work as a scientist in the pharmaceutical and nuclear industries and a very short spell as a secondary school science teacher. When not busy with community activities I am learning piano or Spanish or encouraging vegetables, fruits and flowers in the garden in the company of my four tortoises. You will likely see me out and about on my bicycle, my preferred mode of transport.

Roles within the Community

I am one of the Councillors on the Ghyll Scaur fund committee and was involved in the work on the National Park Southern Boundary extension. I was also involved in developing the Community Plan and, as part of that, I have taken on a role in organizing litter picks and seeking to promote walking, cycling, heritage and tourism within the area. During the Covid-19 restrictions of spring/summer 2020 I have been coordinating a community volunteer group to ensure shielded residents have the support and provisions they need.

On a weekly basis I am a volunteer adviser at Millom Citizens Advice and read with year 3 children at a Barrow school. I help to compile our community newsletter, ‘Out and About’, and I am the secretary for Millom and Haverigg Civic Society and a member of a Broughton and Millom Agricultural Show committee.

Community Interests

I value the strong community and splendid natural landscape we have in Millom Without Parish. I am keen that these amenities are valued and enhanced by residents and visitors, now and in the future. For the wider community I am concerned that we all take account of climate change in our activities, choices and plans. I believe the Parish Council can contribute to promoting sustainable living.

Council Service

Co-opted July 2018. Elected in May 2019.
