Work began on building the play area on a cold wet day, the 19th January, a great contrast to the hot July day when the Play Area Working Group met in a socially distanced, outdoor meeting to set the ball rolling. That first day on site set the tone for a project which was carried out in mostly grotty, sometimes freezing weather by the contractors. Occasionally when the sun burst through it began to feel like the play area was really taking shape and fitting in to the landscape of Thwaites Village Hall and the surroundings.

On 19th February, after a final inspection, sanitisation and clean-up of the field, the fences were dropped and on Saturday 20th January the play area was opened. This was one of the flagship projects of the 2019 Community Plan and a great source of pride accompanied the opening of the facility which has been made possible by the generous use of the land and solid support throughout by Thwaites Village Hall.
This is a large project to have undertaken at any time and carrying it out during the coronavirus regulations added much to the spice.
